Embracing your Journey:
Navigating Life Without
Measuring Yourself
Against Others
Interactive workshop on understanding the psychology behind fear.

We gathered at the University of Guelph, Peter Clark Hall, for an interactive and engaging workshop centred on embracing your own journey and recognizing the importance of navigating life without comparing yourself to others.
Our agenda featured presentations from the CCA-Canada team, interactive icebreakers, collaborative workshop sessions, and an inspiring talk from our founder, Srinivas Arka. Alongside this, we held a series of raffle draws with prizes ranging from Shoppers Drug Mart and Apple gift cards, to our founder’s books, CCA-Canada hats and tote bags! We provided a delicious complimentary vegetarian bake pasta primavera, with bread rolls and fruit trays. Attendees were treated to amazing in-house entertainment by Skylar Everett, a singer and songwriter from Guelph, Ontario, who filled the venue with her beautiful voice! We had a Kahoot! contest to test the youth attendees’ knowledge on the topic as well as pop culture and social media memes.
Beyond the activities and entertainment, the heart of the event was the meaningful conversations it inspired. Youth and older adults alike shared their perspectives and lived experiences with the group, fostering a safe and open environment for meaningful dialogue.
The following questions guided the panel and breakout discussions:
We were also honoured to welcome our charity’s founder, philosopher, author, and professional speaker, Srinivas Arka, who shared his insights and answered several key questions.
Question 1: Why do we celebrate outcomes more than resilience?
Question 2: What are we really looking for when we compare ourselves to someone else?
Question 3: How do you know if the life you’re trying to catch up to (or feel behind in) isn’t actually the life meant for you?
Our Founder shared inspiring words during the event. Here are a few excerpts:
“Sometimes you gain knowledge as though nature itself is teaching you what you can be and what you can do. Your existence is so unparalleled that you truly have something unique to offer, your DNA, your fingerprints, and your standpoint say it all. Your standpoint is unique, and nobody else can occupy it.”
“I don’t see everything as right or everything as wrong. It depends on the situation, the circumstances, the perception, our expectations, and not to analyze before you draw conclusions. It’s easy to pass judgment, but it takes courage to explore the deeper truths.”
This event was masterfully co-ordinated by youth Jessica Franey, Youth Administrative Co-ordinator at CCA-Canada. Jessica co-hosted the event with Ava Calvieri, Event Co-ordinator, and Mackenzie Williams, Marketing Specialist. Ava and Mackenzie brought enthusiasm and positive energy that made the event vibrant and fun.
