BODY,MIND AND SPIRIT WELLNESS FAIR

Educational and enlightening charity fair for seniors, their family, and caregivers.

We gathered at the Vellore Village Community Centre to invite seniors across the community to engage in a vibrant, uplifting day dedicated to whole-person wellness. With a wellness centred approach focused on nurturing the mind, body and spirit, our fair featured 8 different community organizations that are dedicated to supporting seniors in our community through, offering valuable resources, services and tailored approaches to care. Attendees were able to explore everything from health education to social programs and community engagement. All aimed towards helping older adults stay connected, active and well.

Our agenda for the day featured several organizations from our inspiring community vendors, topics ranged from practical health and nutrition to enlightening wellness sessions centred on positive affirmations and self-esteem. Besides this, we held a series of raffle draws with prizes donated by Saje Wellness Vaughan and FirstLight Homecare. We provided a complimentary vegan lunch alongside some light refreshments, coffee and tea. We were honoured to have amazing inhouse entertainment from a Toronto based band Blumarelo who filled the venue with their calypso inspired melodies.

We played a previously recorded video by Srinivas Arka where he encouraged seniors to value growing older.

“Aging is not negative. You become sage when you age. In order to acquire new experiences in life, new knowledge in life, to accomplish great things, you need to age. Age means going through time. You need to move into new layers of time. So, that’s how you experience the journey of life. So, when you drive through, so new things come to you, you begin to see new trees and a new road and new conditions around you, environment and so also, new things come only when you leave something behind you, that means you are rolling forward. So, that is ageing, that is, so that’s not negative, not to be undermined, oh my god, you are growing old, you are not growing old, you are growing gold, seriously. So how, so wisdom, wisdom comes with time, with experience, so wisdom is the award you get, knowledge you get, special knowledge, your insights will be so valuable to the world.”

Our event brought the community together in a meaningful way, highlighting the older adults in our community. With vibrant engagement, raffle prize giveaways and intentional vendor-based presentations, we cultivated a supportive space where older adults and other community members alike could gather to learn, connect and celebrate wellness in its entirety. We were honoured to have a special appearance from M.P. of Woodbridge Michael Gugilemin who shared a few words about his appreciation for our organization and its dedication to supporting seniors in the community.

We’d like to thank our amazing vendors for participating in this fair but more importantly for their daily dedication to supporting the older adults in our community. Thank you to, Circle of Care with Sinai Health, Community Alliance for Accessible Treatment, FirstLight Homecare, the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region, Yellow Brickhouse, Helping Hands Physiotherapy Woodbridge and Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).

We extend a sincere thank you to all attendees, volunteers and vendors who made this wellness fair a true success. We look forward to sharing more moments of wellness with you in the future.
